Direct Sales

We all know people who sell Avon, Mary Kay, Avon, Tupperware, Avon, nutritional
supplements, AVON, you-name-it. Anything you can buy in a store can be bought
from a slightly-too-enthusiastic woman working from her kitchen table. I have
limited personal experience in this field, so feel free to
email your own
experiences to me.

Pros: You stand to gain not just money, but really cool stuff, a network of new
acquaintances and friends, and an active social life. All for the energy of throwing
a party… and who doesn’t like parties?

Cons: This isn’t just a party. It’s a J-O-B, one that requires you to be outgoing,
persistent, enthusiastic, and convincing. You will need childcare for evenings
away from home (the amount varies from company to company). There will likely
be start-up costs, an oppressive amount of paperwork, and frequent phone calls
to manage your growing sales empire. You have to be a go-getter, and that is not
an acquired trait.
