Forget what the politicians and pundits tell you; women have always worked.
Living on one working or middle class income requires careful budgeting, and if
you examine the various economic situations of the generations preceding us, it
was even harder then. So how did women balance work and family before daycare
centers sprang up on every corner? They worked at home. They took up
crocheting, took in laundry, even took in other people’s children. They raised
gardens and livestock to feed their families and sold the surplus. Proverbs 31
talks admiringly about a woman of valor who contributes to her family through
entrepreneurship and investment. If you find that your checkbook balance is lower
than the presidential approval ratings, it’s time to stop worrying and start thinking
of ways you can relieve the strain without being gone forty hours a week.
